My first visit to Africa was to Nairobi in Kenya. Here I got to know two visual artists from the neighborhood of Mathare, the second largest slum in Nairobi. Their names are David Mbutia and David Kiki. They introduced me to the slums. That was the first time I became acquainted with the true human, one I had never met before. Despite the very different circumstances than I was used to, I had the privilege of sharing many beautiful moments with the people there and create stunning pictures.
It was also the first time I did an outdoor exhibition in the middle of the neighborhood I was photographing. I had rented out a football field and did an exhibition of the pictures I took there. In this way I could give back to the people there.
